Digital Restoration of the Mosaics
This site presents, for the first time, the digital restoration of two masterpieces of our cultural heritage: The Mosaic of Tirana and the Exonarthex Mosaic from Basilica B in the ancient city of Bylis. Through cutting-edge Gigapixel photography technology, every section of these ancient structures was documented in ultra-high resolution. To restore their complete visual narrative, the missing pieces (tesserae) were digitally replaced one by one, meticulously and accurately reconstructed based on the surviving original sections. This seamless technological process allows visitors to experience these ancient masterpieces in stunning, uninterrupted detail, bringing you closer than ever before to their original grandeur.

3D Reconstruction of the Roman Villa
Explore the evolution of this ancient site through an interactive 3D model, built directly from the measurements of the surviving foundations. At its peak in the 3rd–4th centuries AD, this Roman villa was divided into elegant residential quarters (pars urbana) and an agricultural production area (pars rustica). The grand scale of the mosaic, crafted using the opus tessellatum technique, highlights the high status of its owners, while the wine vats prove an advanced agrarian lifestyle. By navigating the screen, you can visualize the entire original complex, most of which remains unexcavated beneath the buildings of the modern city.

Interactive Experience: Wave Your Hands
Who says you can't touch art? This installation features a magical interactive game designed for children and visitors of all ages. Without ever touching the screen, simply wave your hands in the air to grab, move, and snap the ancient mosaic tiles into place. It's part history, part tech-magic, and total fun!

Documentaries on Screen
Three dedicated screens show short documentaries on the history of the site, the excavation process, and the work of restoration. The films are made in collaboration with the archaeologists, historians, and restorers who have worked directly on the Mosaic of Tirana. Available in Albanian and English with subtitles, they offer a deeper introduction for those who wish to understand more.
